As some of you know, after a successful career on Wall Street and an MBA from Stanford, I felt like I’d climbed to the top of the ladder only to realize…crap! Wrong ladder!!
I was “successful” on the outside, but inside, I was craving deeper meaning and joy from my work.
Today, I want to talk to you about a shift.
A shift in the way strong women tend to take on the weight of the world, neglecting what they truly want.
I want to show you how to make a shift to focus on your soul’s desires, not just climbing another rung of somebody else’s ladder.
I’ve spent literally over 10,000 hours and close to ten years of personal experience and professional development learning about the neuroscience behind behavior change, working with career coaches, behavioral psychologists, mindfulness experts, and studying with some of the most prominent spiritual healers and thought leaders in the world.
I often felt alone or like I was crazy or being too picky and demanding – maybe I should just settle for a typical 9 to 5 desk job like everyone else.
But I just couldn’t. My soul wouldn’t let me.
Which is probably how you’re feeling if you’re still reading this email. Something is telling you there is more out there…

Although I’m not looking for a job (I’m retired), these steps can also apply to all things! And My favorite is saying no to others, so I can say yes to myself…
Thanks Vanessa.
I completely agree Louise! And yes…saying “no” to others in order to say “YES” to YOU is such an important skill (and one that I’ve found many women struggle with as we have a tendency to please others). It’s amazing how much possibility opens up when we start saying “No” to what we don’t want and creating space for what we DO want instead. YAY!
I enjoyed your video about these 9 steps. I can tell that they’ve been distilled from your personal approach and all the research that you’ve done. This is a more comprehensive set of behaviors that others discussing a similar topic encourage. I really like the “Fire your advisors”. I’d never heard this before. I also believe you 100% because I’ve observed that I do a similar thing (get defensive) when people close to me reach out about a change that they’re making in their lives. I’m realizing now that I need to support them better and that I might not always have been well supported. I’d love to get this in written form! I found myself rewatching the video to jot down notes.
Thanks Emily! Great idea to have some of the notes in written format, we’ll put that together and share when it’s available. Thanks for the suggestion.
I’m so glad you found the video helpful Emily. And YES – it’s so true about firing our advisors! Please reach out to info@vanessaloder.com and we’ll get you some additional notes and information. Thanks!
Great steps Vanessa! I agree wholeheartedly with “fire your advisors”!! Thank you for sharing ; )
Thanks Kirsten! Glad you enjoyed it. Yep…finding new advisors is so important. 🙂
You are always an inspiration. #7 you mentioned serendipitous events as positive signs-these are powerful. I like that description because I experience these often and they keep me going. Also love the affirmation of getting quiet to find your voice inside. I observe how others in my business are hitting the ground running, my process is slower and I do use quiet time, I’ve much to sort through. I think I’ll get to work on, “What I really want is…”.
Thank you Theresa, and how wonderful that you notice the serendipitous events and use a slower process to have more quiet time. That’s great!
Fantastic job, Vanessa! thanks for sharing your wisdom with the world!
Thanks Lindsay!
